Silicon wafers are the basic building block of most semiconductors, which are an important component of all electronic devices. Therefore, how to manufacture high-quality silicon wafers is an increasingly popular research topic. Silicon wafers are made from polycrystalline silicon. High-purity polycrystalline silicon is placed in a quartz crucible and heated until it melts to form liquid silicon. A small single-crystal silicon seed rod is then inserted into the liquid silicon and slowly rotated and pulled up.
By controlling the pulling speed and temperature, the liquid silicon gradually solidifies on the seed crystal to form a silicon ingot with a single crystal structure. The seed crystal is slowly pulled so that the single-crystal silicon ingot continues to grow to the required diameter and length. Finally, after a series of cutting and polishing, a silicon wafer is obtained.
